What is GST Registration?
Small businesses usually hit GST questions before they feel ready for them. One year of steady UPI receipts, one marketplace onboarding, or one B2B contract can turn GST from a distant compliance topic into an immediate operating requirement.
For small businesses, the right registration decision is not just about the threshold. It is about how you sell, whether your buyers expect GST invoices, whether you want Input Tax Credit, and whether Composition Scheme is actually suitable for your model.
We help small businesses decide between regular registration and composition only after looking at customer mix, interstate exposure, margin profile, and filing burden. That prevents owners from choosing the cheapest-looking route and then discovering it breaks growth later.
The goal is not to get “a GST number”. The goal is to choose the registration path that supports invoicing, vendor compliance, tax efficiency, and manageable monthly filing from the start.
Who Needs GST Registration?
Regular vs Composition for a small business
Composition can make sense for some intra-state B2C businesses, but it is not the default answer for every small company. If you need ITC, sell interstate, or serve B2B clients who depend on tax invoices, regular registration is usually the better commercial decision.
How GST registration works
A visible process from document collection to GSTIN delivery, with status updates along the way.
Threshold and scheme check
We check your turnover against the threshold for your state and type of supply, and whether the Composition Scheme or regular registration suits you.
Documents for your structure
What you need depends on whether you run a proprietorship, partnership or company. We send the exact list for yours.
Filed, ARN issued
We file REG-01 on the portal, including the composition option if you choose it, and share the ARN.
GSTIN and return calendar
Once the GSTIN is issued, we set out your return calendar: GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B on the regular scheme, or quarterly CMP-08 on composition.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is GST mandatory for small business below ₹20 lakh?
No, if you only sell within your home state. Interstate supply, e-commerce selling, or TDS-deduction businesses must register regardless of turnover.
Should a small business opt for the Composition Scheme?
Good fit if you're a B2C retailer/restaurant with turnover under ₹1.5 crore. You pay 1% (traders) / 5% (restaurants) flat — but you can't claim ITC or sell interstate. We advise case by case.
How often do I file GST returns as a small business?
Regular scheme: GSTR-3B monthly + GSTR-1 monthly or quarterly (QRMP). Composition scheme: CMP-08 quarterly + GSTR-4 annually. Your 1st month is covered by us.
What happens if I don't register after crossing the threshold?
Penalty of 10% of tax due (minimum ₹10,000). For deliberate evasion, up to 100% of tax owed. And you lose the ability to claim ITC on past purchases.
Can a sole proprietor small business register?
Yes — proprietorships register using the owner's PAN. No DSC needed (Aadhaar OTP works). Simplest entity type to get through GST.
